A citadel of monumental proportions, the Lahore Fort stands tall and proud in the provincial capital. Dating back to the 11th century, the magnificent fort is spread across an area greater than 20 hectares, located at the northern end of the ancient Walled City of Lahore.
Established in 2012, the Walled City of Lahore Authority, under the visionary leadership of its Director General Kamran Lashari, has been tasked with the preservation and restoration of the Walled City, Lahore’s historic core. The WCLA has carried out extensive works rehabilitating monuments such as the Shahi Hammam and Wazir Khan Mosque as well as the Lahore Fort, where many lost structures have been uncovered and reclaimed.
The horticulture department of WCLA has been consistently working on many ignored aspects of the Lahore Fort; focusing on overall cleanliness, restoration work, provision of basic facilities to the tourists, new plantations and last but not least,  the identification and re-adaptive use of ignored and unused places.
Given Mr. Lashari’s illustrious background as ex-DG Parks and Horticulture, there can be no better leader of the team. Under his guidance and supervision, the horticulture team has received a boost in terms of new equipment and training and the expansive grounds of the Lahore Fort have received an aesthetic face lift. Special focus is being given to newly renovated areas, such as the Picture Wall, Royal Kitchen and the Barood Khana.
The gardens of Lahore Fort are once again blooming and with a hint of spring in the air, there is no better time than now to plan a visit to this ancient wonder.
